Over the last couple of days, payment giant PayPal has come under immense pressure from customers who are definitely angry with the company’s recent financial adventurism to “take money” from customers’ accounts if they are accused of spreading misinformation.
In our age of big tech crackdown on users who are deemed to be dissidents across social media and various platforms, it seems like the normal populace have somewhat woken up, for how long though is the million-dollar question, but let’s dig deeper into this issue.
PayPal which has blocked customers’ accounts for years for so-called suspicious reasons has taken a step too far in a direction that is definitely a glimpse into our future, but the public is not quite ready for such a reality yet.
This dystopian tech dream is basically to control the populace and allow them to be submissive to the current technological regime. For example, we are currently seeing a cracking down on free speech and alternative views.
If you somehow question current world events and is not following the herd, you are deemed a very bad sheep and should instead be slaughtered at the behest of your shepherd. Shepherd in this case would be the very monopolistic tech overlords who basically know everything about you and is spending billions yearly to keep you hooked.
PayPal basically wants to control what you say as a small business especially if you are in the information sphere, this sets a bad precedent for our future where if we run a news website for example, and express an alternative view based on thorough analysis and basic reasoning, we are liable to be deemed as dissidents and it gives PayPal the right to take USD $2500 from our accounts because we are not a part of the “establishment”.
I applaud them for their bravery to even think of such a move and put it out there on the web for all to see how they really are. Factions of society never liked that idea and hence there was a huge uproar on social media over the move.
Even former president David Marcus and Co-founder Elon Musk expressed their distaste for such a cunning and despicable move, especially at a time when people are experiencing the pre-effects of a probable recession over the next 18 months.
It’s hard for me to openly criticize a company I used to love and gave so much to. But @PayPal’s new AUP goes against everything I believe in. A private company now gets to decide to take your money if you say something they disagree with. Insanity. https://t.co/Gzf8faChUb

PayPal quickly backtracks and came out with a save-face statement.
“PayPal is not fining people for misinformation and this language was never intended to be inserted in our policy,” a spokesperson later told media outlets over the weekend. “We’re sorry for the confusion this has caused.”
This also reflected badly on the stock price of the company which further adds to the decline they have been going through over the last year where the value has nearly halved.
I am glad that the public at least lashed out at such as bold and cunning move to steal money from customers for “misinformation”, which is indeed a problem we are facing but taking money from someone’s account is definitely a move that was never expected.
Hopefully, the public can continue to hit back at some of these policies which definitely need to be addressed.
