One of China’s largest telecommunication firms, China Unicom is in the early stages of creating a 6G system. They are hoping that they can have a working prototype by 2025.
Chairman of Unicom and Chief Executive Liu Liehong, was speaking at China Development Forum, which is a two-day conference that talks about economics, technology, and other sectors impacting society.
Ministry of Industry and Information Technology Jin Zhuanglong was also at the conference where he said that China is leading the pace for 6G research and development.
Given China’s lead in 5G technology which isn’t evenly distributed around the world equally as yet, the fact that they are already working at 6G technology is pretty impressive.
China’s 5G technology even though impressive has garnered backlash from Washington which sees it as a threat. Huawei who is heavily invested in this space was basically blacklisted in certain countries and came under increasing pressure from Washington.
Currently, China and the United States are in a sort of a technological battle, Washington is noticing the increasing sophistication of Chinese technology which could even be utilized in military technology.
Given the fact that this technology is probably a decade away let’s see how those in Washington responds to this.
