Sony Pictures has revealed the first trailer for ‘Uncharted,’ the film adaptation of the video game series of the same name. Starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, the film will be released on February 18, 2022 in theaters including, IMAX 3D and RealD 3D.
The movie stars Holland as a younger Nathan, who, in the games, believes himself to be a descendant of Sir Francis Drake. He’s not your Indiana Jones-type explorer.
He’s a more street-smart, smooth-talking tomb raider. Wahlberg, meanwhile, plays Victor “Sully” Sullivan, Drake’s wisecracking mentor and treasure-hunting partner.
The film has a long history of getting delayed both with its development and release. The film entered development in 2008 at first, with film producer Avi Arad stating that he is working with a division of Sony Pictures Releasing to develop the film adaptation of Uncharted, but the film entered in a complicated production, with directors, writers, and cast members.
Wahlberg was supposed to play Nathan Drake, the role which was later decided for Tom Holland as the film was decided to be an origin story of Nathan Drake.
The film was originally set for release on June 10, 2016, but was delayed to June 30, 2017. The film was later delayed to December 18, 2020, and then to March 5, 2021, after Travis Knight’s departure.
It was further delayed to October 8, 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film was then moved up to July 16, 2021, before moving to February 11, 2022, and then again to the following week on Feb. 18, 2022 (current release date).
