Tim Stokely, the CEO of the controversial social media platform OnlyFans will step down as CEO and allow Ami Gan to take over. Ami Gan is the company’s head of communications and marketing.
This is not surprising given the amount of scrutiny the company came under the last year. It is basically looked upon as a legally acting porn social media website.
It also goes way beyond that, as it has often been scrutinized for the number of sex workers that are on the platform. OnlyFans tried to clean up their image by banning not-safe-for-work (NSFW) content. That ban was short-lived as they crumbled under immense pressure from their user base.
OnlyFans is caught in a dilemma, where on one end they can in fact clean up their image. A move such as this could allow them to take a hit due to the very nature of their platform.
This could lead to an existential crisis if this reality becomes true. On the other hand, they need to find a way on how they can integrate what made them a part of their business strategy.
It’s a pretty difficult task to tackle, given the fact that in 2021, the company is on the path to generating $2.5 billion in revenue. OnlyFans claim that they only took 20% of the earnings. It would be catastrophic to stop that gravy train now.
It’s only a matter of time before they get additional pressure from congress. If not, we will most likely see an easing of the rules to allow OnlyFans to operate free and openly.
He should have done that long time, the company needs better leadership
