Modern-day Britain: The end of an Era

Must Read

Queen Elizabeth’s II death has been permeating the western airwaves and for obvious reasons, Britain still has some form of political power around the world, even though they are just a mere carcass of its former self. I am of the assumption that the Queen’s recent passing marks the end of an era for Britain.

Her death is more of a symbological representation that Britain’s reign is over. If you are an avid reader of history, Britain’s reign has been on a rapid decline since world 2, when America came out of that situation the winner and was able to quickly capitalize on the opportunities that came after.

While Europe was rebuilding, they were making new alliances and forming new institutions to cement its power over the world. It worked quite well so far. Britain was left to play second fiddle to America, even though they might not talk about it around meetings, each party knows where the other stand.

Britain just never had the resources or even the human capital to compete, which is key. This is a huge reason why China will probably overtake the combined west in GDP by 2050, if and only if a man-made disaster such as a nuclear war doesn’t set us back a couple of centuries.

Britain today is a shadow of her former self, countries under her jurisdiction don’t even take her seriously anymore. Barbados recently showed us that, Jamaica is toying with the idea and even Antigua and Barbuda. Even Scotland wants to leave the British umbrella which shows us how far the mighty have fallen.

There are just a few incentives to be under British rule. Britain currently is facing economic problems and it will likely continue in the foreseeable future. Political problems are also gnawing away at the patience of the population.

As new countries are on the horizon and are becoming centers of power, Britain’s political might will dissipate to zero. It will be seen as just another American partner that will piggyback on anything the United States does.

With a history that is stained with activities of plundering and exploitation of other countries resources and civil society, it is an empire that will not be missed by those who don’t have the memory span of a goldfish.
