Russia blocks access to Facebook

Must Read

Russia’s media regulatory issues out a statement on Friday stating that they will block access to Facebook in the country. They also stated that Facebook violated federal law by restricting access to accounts of several state-affiliated media outlets.

This was a move was already in the making, as last week Russia decided to limit access to certain social media platforms and Facebook was included on that list.

As the information war continues adjacent to the real war that is taking place in Ukraine and as the Russian forces invade the territory, there has been a lot of hysteria on social media. Russia’s main media outlet has been basically blocked and banned from the western airwaves as of this writing.

It’s mainly due to the ongoing war that is taking place and accusations are that Russian media is being biased.

This kind of move in a “democratic” environment has been strange but laws are being rewritten as we all journey down this slippery slope of new media. There have been reports that Twitter is also be restricted in certain areas within Russia and quiet possibly be blocked in the coming days if things don’t change.

Currently, the media war between Russia and the west has been abysmal to put it frankly. Utterly one-sided and lacks understanding of the entire situation. Russia’s move as of this moment might be retaliatory given how the west has tainted the views about Russian people.

There’s problem more to come as the war continues and companies continue to “virtue signal” by either banning or stopping operations in the country.
